Turkmen Language – Our Mission Is to Promote Teaching and Learning of the Language
Turkmenlanguage.com aims to introduce the language to learners around the globe, to assist those learners who have already started learning, and also to create an opportunity for people who speak English, French, and Russian to learn more about the language with language lessons. We are also interested in giving people more information about Turkmen culture, literature, history and traditions.
Background
Turkmen (Türkmençe, or Türkmen dili) is a language that belongs to Oghuz branch of Turkic languages family and spoken by the Turkmens of Central Asia. It is the official language of Turkmenistan.
In the past, the Arabic alphabet was used. Afterwards, from 1938 to 1994 Turkmenistan used the Cyrillic alphabet. The modern written language uses the “New Alphabet” which is based on the Latin alphabet.
The new Turkmen alphabet has 30 letters, which consists of 9 vowels and 21 consonants.
Vowels: a, e, ä, y, i, o, ö, u, ü
Consonants: b, ç, d, f, g, h, j, ž, k, l, m, n, ň, p, r, s, ş, t, w, ý, z
